hello all….and by all i mean the 3 personalities that inhabit my brain after a particularly long night at the bar. i have been remiss in writing of movies on this here blog, and i shall correct that problem. i shan’t be writing of new movies all that much unless i am truly moved, b/c most real critics splooge themselves about the new releases. no, what i shall be doing is reminding you of, or introducing you to movies that i have seen and treasure, knowing that you may flip on your dvd player with one of these and have yourself a good time.

my pick for this time around coinicides with ESPN;s favorite time of year, that of the start of football season. people go gaga over every little tidbit of training camp news.( that means you #4. stay away from the jets or we’ll have words. maybe not, but i’ll be pissed right off.) the movie i have chosen for my football returns pick is a classic that every child in this nation should be made to watch, if not at home, then at school. this should be required viewing in our educational system. it’s not so much about football as it is about life, but it is a true story. if you haven’t seen it, go rent it and grab your kleenex. i wont go into the story details here, b/c it’s that good. what flick is this, you wonder. its simple. the movie is Rudy.

alritey people. nobody else but me has been writing on this blog as of late. from this i can only surmise that eddie and jason have been captured, frozen in carbonite, and are awaiting transport to some godforsaken hellhole from which i will have to save them. and save them i shall, o loyal readers, but not until i have polished off my current fermented beverage. the one i am enjoying tonight is another fine entry from the folks at Brouwerij Affligem, in Belgium. Seriousy, if the belgians put as much effort into world domination as they did into making fine beers, we’d all be eating waffles and drinking some fine brews. this fine example of belgian craftsmanship is Affligem Dubbel, a reddish-brown dubbel ale that is damn tasty. clocking in at 7 % abv, its a sweet one. i encourage all to taste, even my pal Schmoo. it aint a belgian blonde, Schmoo, its a belgian brunette !!!!!!

hello, loyal readers. yes, that means all 7 of you. this time round, i have selected as my choice for your literary perusal a true classic of the 20th century.  i present to you Seven Pillars of Wisdom  by T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia. for those of you that think he was just a movie character someone dreamt up, think again. he was a real guy, and he did some wild stuff out there in the desert during World War I. He wrote of his experiences, and its not often that one gets to read history by one who actually made history.  for those of you that would like to watch such exploits on a silver screen, you;re in luck. they did also make a movie about this guy, starring peter o’toole as Lawrence (dude was robbed at the oscars !!!!), and is consistently regarded as one of the top 5 motion pictures ever. it will never be remade. it was that good. so this is a two-for-one here at tdl, and no, not the kind hat you all hope for while seeing two chicks at the bar who have the look that they may be more then gal pals. enjoy

whatsa goin on, my like-minded friends. we’ve been away for a while, what with the dude picking up and moving the site and all, so we’ve been bereft of hotties. i know, i know, such a travesty cannot be allowed to stand forever. i for one will not let it stand a moment longer. out first UTR hottie in out new internet home comes to us from yesteryear, but shes still a smokin hot fox, having not yet attained the exalted state of cougarhood. today i bring to you the lovely danica mckellar. that’s right, winnie cooper grew up into a sexy vixen. guess kevin arnold was onto something. in addition to making men drool, shes a math genius, writing a book for girls about how math is good for them. i have an equation for danica that probably didnt make it into her book : less ben & jerry’s+ more exercise = a bangin body.  enjoy.

alright gents, belly up to the bar. this week i bring to you a true man’s drink. as we all know, my ancestors hailed from the emerald isle. therefore i have been known to enjoy some of the beers from that fair country. one such brew that i enjoy from time to time, such as during the all star game last night, is Murphy’s Irish Stout. Murphys is brewed by our friends over at InBev, the Belgian company that Anheuser-Busch just sold out to. they sold out long before A-B did. (I’d like to know what John McCain and Barack Obama think about that. ”screw the rust belt factories closing, tell us how you’re going to get our macrobrews back !!!!!”) Its known to be a smooth, creamy stout, and is the main rival to the heavyweight champ of stouts, guinness.  if you’re a fan of the darker beers, i suggest you give it a try. commonly available at all finer beer and wine emporiums.

Ok, now that I have some access to the site again, I will pick up where I left off. A few weekend’s ago this video was set to be the Video of the Week(end). Of course with all the maintenance going on around here and The Dude’s lack of commitment (just kidding, well sort of, but not really), things have been a bit slow. Leave it to Murph to keep things going though (good job buddy!). I selected this video in honor of the classmates I left behind. You see I just finished my second tour of duty in college. During my final class, I wore a t-shirt that became a sort of running joke. The shirt had a picture of Buffalo Bill (of Silence of the Lambs fame) holding his dog Precious with the phrase “It puts the lotion in the basket.” My classmates thought it was funny and dared me to do the Buffalo Bill dance in the middle of class. That obviously was not going to happen. So in honor of my buddies still struggling through the collegiate grind, I send this out to you in my own twisted and warped kind of way. Enjoy!

hello, fellow drunks. its summer, and that means summer beers. now most will come up with sam adams summer ale, which bites pretty much. one of my faves is black dog summer white, by spanish peaks brewery, but i cant find a pic of that. today i bring to you, a somewhat darker brew, for those of us with hair on our chests,those of us with testicular fortitude…..when we want a manly man’s summer beverage.  bring to you, straight from germany, land of frisky frauleins, the fine beer that is Hofbrau Munchen Dunkel.  get after it, son !!!

Hey everyone…  

I’m sure you’ve noticed the massive slow-down in content over the last week or two.  Let me just take a minute to re-assure you that this isn’t us leaving or abandoning the site.  Work is underway at www.thedudeslife.com as we transform what you’ve come to know and love into something bigger and better.  The new site will not just allow for more flexibility, but will also allow us to expand what we do day in and day out.    With that said, I just ask that you hang in there with us, be a little patient, and before you know it, we’ll be back, bigger, better, and badder than ever.  Thanks for your continued support!
